“Philippine History Retrieval Project – Portugal”

The Project Philippine History Retrieval Project – Portugal is coming to an end. It aims at providing a repository of informations about the Philippines from 16th century Portuguese sources, in English.

One of the main features of the Project is to deliver accurate and careful translations of the original Portuguese materials. The translation/revision team includes the following experts:

  • Hilary Owen – Professor of Portuguese and Luso-African Studies, University of Manchester
  • Jean Andrews – Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, University of Nottingham
  • Jeremy Roe (also supervisor) – CHAM, NOVA FCSH
  • Joseph da Costa – Department of International History, London School of Economics and Political Science
  • Patricia Anne Odber de Baubeta – Honorary Senior Lecturer, University of Birmingham
  • Simon Park – Associate Professor in Medieval and Renaissance Portuguese, University of Oxford

The International Conference Series and Special Events Contacts and Continuities: 500 Years of Asian-Iberian Encounters will take place from June 23 to July 23, 2021. The Conference is divided in 4 main parts/themes:

  • Legacies of the Encounter in Seafaring & Trade
  • Legacies of the Encounter in Ideas & Identity Formation
  • Legacies of the Encounter in Institutions
  • Legacies of the Encounter in Forms of Expression

Registration opens May 15, 2021.
