“Contacts and Continuities – 500 Years of Asian-Iberian Encounters” is on

The Conference has started yesterday. It aims at revisiting 500 years of Asian-Iberian relations. It looks at how contacts, connections, and continuing conversations between diverse Iberian and Asian cultures shaped those societies. It also brings into sharper focus the adaptive and adoptive capacities of the agents of encounter and their communities.

Contacts & Continuities brings together eminent scholars who offer diverse perspectives and pivotal points of inquiry regarding the encounters and interactions between Asian and Iberian cultures. This conference series sheds light on creative moments and clears new paths for reevaluating heritage and the role of Asian and Iberian agents as interlocutors in a global exchange of culture and ideas.

The Conference is divided in 4 main parts/themes:

  • Legacies of the Encounter in Seafaring & Trade
  • Legacies of the Encounter in Ideas & Identity Formation
  • Legacies of the Encounter in Institutions
  • Legacies of the Encounter in Forms of Expression

All information about registration, panels, speakers and other issues are available on the Conference website and Facebook page.
