The Islands Beyond the Empire – Portuguese Essays on Early Modern Philippine History (16th-18th Centuries) é um volume de ensaios cuja produção foi proposta pelo Grupo de Trabalho à Embaixada das Filipinas em Lisboa em 2019.
O livro reúne alguns dos artigos científicos mais relevantes produzidos pela historiografia portuguesa sobre História das Filipinas na Idade Moderna (séculos XVI-XVIII). O seu principal objetivo é o de incrementar o conhecimento mútuo do passado comum entre Portugal e as Filipinas, assim como o de promover o contacto entre académicos dos dois países.
O volume é coordenado por Paulo Jorge de Sousa Pinto e Miguel Rodrigues Lourenço. Inclui 18 artigos e ensaios (alguns originalmente publicados em Português e agora traduzidos para língua inglesa) da autoria de 11 investigadores e académicos portugueses:
